LARRY SULTAN
Larry Sultan first began this project by taking snap shots of home videos that his parents had taken when he was younger. From doing this he began to make a collection of his families photos which at first made him feel guilty but later made him feel grateful. This is because this project unintentionally led him to reconnect with his parents as well as reforms the way he had viewed his childhood and his relationship with his father. And what he further discovered from watching the family films is that he was able to reshape the way he looked at his childhood and that after watching them he saw how beautiful and magical some of the moments were compared to the not so bright and and wonderful memories he had already. He was mainly able todo this by his then eventually helped him create images that were naturalistic as they were snapshots of family films but also some that were staged with the help of his parents who he worked with so that he could become more comfortable when publishing his work at the end. This therefor helped him and his father develop and improve their relationship as his father began to understand the reason why Larry did photography as well as Larry seeing his parents in a more positive light. with this project Larry also showed that photography can be used as a performance through the use of his staged photographs which he used to attach clear messages and meaning through where as the snapshots of his film videos were naturalistic and spoke for themselves.
This is another image from his book Pictures form home in which he captures any pictures of his parents in their home. Although at first his intentions were never to take pictures of his parents, as he felt that he was invading their privacy, he ended up doing it as he realised that it was helping him reconnect with his parents as well as his childhood which is another reason he decided to publish the book as he felt that he owed it to his younger self to remember his childhood in a better light than before. Although this image in particular does not expose who the reader of the news paper is the audience can guess that it is Sultans father as he was a key part of this project. furthermore when looking at this image the audience is captivated by the contrast of light between the left and right side of the picture. the way the camera has also captured the sunlight exposing the the what the news paper is about always the audience to have a inside into what his fathers interest are which could be things such as business and philosophy which reminds the audience of how opposite it is to Larry Sultans interest. However like some of the other images in his book that are staged I believe this one is too but I do not think that the lighting or shadows are staged as the image has been taken during daylight from the inside opposite to the light which creates a shadow from the inside.
Theses are images I took during lesson and it was my first time exploring the meaning of postcards from home and its meaning to me. Me and my partner went outside and used one or two objects to take phots around the school. We used places that had a lot of light so that we can also create shadows.
This is the work of Delphina Carmona a photographer, content creator and arts director who was born in Buenos Arires Argentina but now works in Berline Germany. Her works is made up of photographs which are contructeed snes and itallstraions in what seems like an alomst daily mode, as well as this her work someties contain self protaites with objects and compositions whihc use light and shadow as a form of expression. Her works also mainly is of things such as waking up, eating, and sleeping with reacurring elsemnts such as shadows which then then create a particular meaning or interprestion for the audience. she uses warm tones and colours in her work which make them nique and captivating to look at. mainy of her images use objects which help create a simple yet absrtact image in the end that doesnt make it hard for the audiece to look at.
When first looking at this photograph the viewer is drawn to the use of the warm one in the image which is very welcoming and complimentray of the women in the blue dress and the bright pink colour of the watermelon. The use of what looks to be natural lighting not only creates a shine on the plastic bag but also creates a completely separates image of shadows in the backgroud. Although we as the audience can clearly see who is posing on the chair, when looking at the shadows alone we are left with a feeling of curiosity which makes us again look for the owner of the shadow. Therefor the image creates contrast of light and shadow as well as emotion in the audience . Further more as the top of the image is very well lit and the bottom of the image is not the viewers else automatically y go towards the top of the image which is meant to be the Centre piece and forces the audience take note of the use of the shadow in this image.
In this particular lessson we were further experimenting using light and natural light like Dalphina Carmona, however due to there being a lack of naturla lighting as it was a gglommy day I decided to used my phones flash light to take these images as I found the cameraa falsh creating a harsh washed out image. in the first images of the green cup I used a water bottle wich had some texyyer of it and some water in it to create the lighing for the image. Placing the flash by where the water and textuer of the ewater bottle was helped me create a wave light lighting that was scattered. However for the photgraphs of the perfume bottle and the bowl I used a glass surface that was in the class room as to place the objects on. Furthermore this time I placed the green cup from before infornt of the camers flsh to take pictuers with a green light as the calss room was darker and a better space to use the falsh. Although I think these photographs are susefull in using light i do belive that i could have created better photohs is ther was more naturla lighting which would also help better represent the artist who inspired me to take these photographs.
Here are a series of candid pictuers i have taken of my family mainly of my Dad and my brother. When taking these pictuers my aim was to captuer the both of them in their naturla element as well as showcasing the life of a child in comparison to the life of an adult. these photographs in particular where inspierd by Larry Sultans work in pgtographing his parents. through this expierece i have noticed that i enjoy taking candid pictuers of people around me mainly of my friends and family. this is becase most of the time when we are aware that our pictuer is being taken we dont always captuer the real personality and character of the person we are photographing, however when we tak candid images we captuer a moment in times where the peson is in their element which is what for me make candid pictuers beautiful. Furthermore this particular task has made me interested in taking more pictuers which are like Larry Sultans work by combineing candid photography with staged photography, as well as maybe incuding elemnts of Delphina Camrona such as using particular lighting and objects.

This was my first edit of the photographs which I would use for my exhibition. when first starting my edit my mani goal was to have a group of photographs which would go well with each other items of colour, vibe, location. this is why I dived the 20 pictures into different groups and put them together to see which photos would look good next to each other, eventually after some trial and error I came up with three different categories for them. the first was colour, I put the images that had similar colours went t each other such as the images of the guitar with he orange golden hour tones and the image of my brother which had some more light organs tones due to the lighting I the room. I also did the same with the picture of the window and again of my brother which both have Purple undertones. I then put the images that either had patterns or interesting shadows next to each other and they also worked well together due o the fact that they were both bright and consisted of flower patters. form this edit I also found out which images I liked in what type of size. for example I liked how the images of my brother were smaller than others which is why desired for them to be in A5 however for the images of the clock, the guitar at golden hour the outdoor class room I liked the clots shadows and ones that I wanted to catch the viewers attentions more therefor I thought that having them be in A3 would be the most affective way of achieving that. And for the rest of the Photos I decided for them to be in A4. I did this untimely because I liked the way they were all next to each other in different sizes and thought that I would look good when I create the exhibition.
